COVID-19 is\u00a0crushing our climbing areas<\/a>. With gyms closed or operating at limited capacities, many new climbers are venturing outside for the first time\u2014which is amazing to see\u2014but the record numbers are taking a toll on the environment. In the United States, popular crags and bouldering areas simply can\u2019t handle the masses. We\u2019re loving our climbing areas to death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Access is not a given\u2014and we often take it granted. Chris Winter, executive director of the Access Fund<\/a>, is tasked with the challenging job of protecting America\u2019s climbing. And while there are dedicated organizations and individuals working to preserve the places we love, it\u2019s ultimately up to the community as a whole<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
